This icon was commissioned by St. Teresa Catholic Church in Sugarland, TX. Along with the icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, it will
be placed in a shrine in the church's chappel. The icon of Divine Mercy is a contemporary icon.
In 1931, a young nun St. Faustina Kowalska at the convent of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Plock,
Poland had a vision. St. Faustiana saw Christ clothed in a white garment with His right hand raised in blessing.
His left hand was touching His garment in the area of the heart, from which two large rays came forth, one red and the other white.
St. Faustina asked about the meaning of the rays in the image. She heard these words in reply:
"The two rays denote Blood and Water. The white ray stands for the Water, which makes souls righteous.
The red ray stands for the Blood, which is the life of souls. These two rays issued forth from the depths of
My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the Cross."
He continued: "Paint an image according to the pattern you see with the signature 'Jesus, I trust in Thee'.
I desire that this image be venerated, first in your chapel, then throughout the world."
